Those darn Communists
By Tom Smith

In this piece What Gulags?
the WSJ explains how harmful it is not to see the past for what it was. Russians nostaligic for the Soviet Union are not the only culprits. Plenty of American academics do their part to keep the vaults of the past locked and the evil spirits unexorcised. If things had gone differently at Moscow and Stalingrad, and Hitler had won the war well enough to secure a separate peace for Fortress Europe, and his kingdom of night lasted 50 years or so, you can bet there would be plenty of American academics who would say, what Jews? and Naziism was never really practiced, and you can't make omlettes without breaking eggs.
