Ayn Rand and Public Choice
By Mike Rappaport

Bryan Caplan discusses the tremendous insights of Ayn Rand on public choice. When I first read Atlas Shrugged in high school, I remember being particularly persuaded by the discussion of what would come to be known as rent seeking. It is just amazing that Rand understood all of this and portrayed it in a powerful way writing in the 1950s before public choice had taken off. Perhaps she should have won the Nobel Prize with Buchanan?
