JT is quite right here. All the flap about NSA spying is grounded politically on the assumption that terrorism just is not that big a threat on US soil. I hope JT is not being too optimistic in saying this sanguine attitude is unlikely to catch on with the broad American public.

I just don't know. I do think the threat of serious to catastrophic terrorist attack is really quite significant. But then, I have actually read books on things like bioterror, and know enough to be scared. You look at how woefully unprepared a place like San Diego is for a known threat like wildfire, and you have to wonder.
