Limbo in limbo
By Tom Smith

RC church reconsidering doctrine of limbo, which I am old enough to remember being taught.

Among other interesting bits in the article, Susan Sontag's rage at death, which she saw, of course, as completely ceasing to exist. That strikes me as characteristically egotistical. What is so hard to accept about ceasing to exist? Maybe she saw it as the ultimate blow to one's career. I suppose it does not due one's resume any good -- "died 2004" or whenever just rather brings it all down to earth, so to speak. Which reminds me, a highly amusing and instructive poem here. (I thought I saw it on VC, but can't find it now. Oh well.)
