Further Into the West
By Mike Rappaport

In my post on the Spielberg TV series, Into the West, I neglected to mention just how interesting (and sad) the interactions between the Americans and Indians are. One wants to be able to say something sensible about the morality of these disputes, but it seems hopeless complicated. Certainly, the Indians were here first, but that does not necessarily give them the right to occupy all of the land. With the two groups living in proximity, there are soon conflicts between them.

An interesting take on these matters is supplied by one of my former students, who has now taken up blogging. He has some interesting thoughts on Into the West as well as other matters.

Also, take a look at this column by Arnold Kling comparing Indian behavior to the modern Islamic terrorists.
