The Virtues of the Market
By Mike Rappaport

Recently, Google started offering GMail, which provides 100 MB of storage and searchable e mail. I was tempted to try it, but the inconvenience of learning a new service and changing my e mail were too great.

This morning, however, I woke up to find that Yahoo, one of my e mail providers, had upgraded to a service which offered, surprise, surprise, 100 MB of storage and searchable e mail. Thank you, Adam Smith.

Update: I spoke too soon. GMail offers 1000 MB, not just 100. So Yahoo is still inferior, but the market is still working. Had GMail not been around, I doubt that Yahoo would have increased its storage ten fold from 10MB to 100 MB.
